The animations on this page were made using POV-RAY as a render program. The frames where then converted into an animated GIF-file using GIMP and then converted to the AVI format.

knot.avi

With courtesy to Mike's little Web Page where I found the material to construct the rope. Nice site that also contains lot of material for those who want to go deeper into the POVRAY language.

icosahedron.avi

This video explains the structure of an icosahedron. Starting with three rectangles (the ratio of their sides happens to be the "Golden Ratio") it is shown how their vertices form equilateral triangles making then icosahedron complete. The video shows that there are several symmetries: a two-fold one around an axis that connects then midpoints of two adjacent sides, a 3-fold symmetry around an axis connecting the centers of two adjacent triangles, and a 5-fold one around an axis connecting two adjacent vertices.

rainbow.avi

A video I made for a friend of mine owning a café called "Rainbow". The letters were taken from a picture that was originally destined for a Tshirt. They served as a heigth_field in POVRAY and were intersected with two concentric cyclinders. They were ginen a Polished_Chrome texture. A rainbow was places behind the camera.
